Senior Spotlight-Keven Tallant PDF Print E-mail

By Mo Rogers

Tallant could always be found wearing a goofy outfit in the student section at a basketball game. You could spot his shaggy hair down the school halls as he bellowed Anchorman quotes or a YouTube short. He’s a music enthusiast, and has a down to earth-easy to get along with attitude. He was hard to miss. When Tallant wasn’t cheering on a school sports team, participating in a FFA event, or playing football, he was usually found spending time with his best friends.

One of Tallant’s biggest commitments was to the FFA program. After becoming the 2009-2010 Parliamentarian for the chapter, Tallant developed a strong passion for the FFA and Agriculture.

“FFA was the best learning experience; it showed me new things, and especially certain aspects of life that I normally wouldn’t see,” said Tallant.

He competed in most of the activities and events his senior year and continues to help the Webberville Chapter as an alumni.

“Keven has been and continues to be one of our integral supporters. His enthusiasm and commitment has compounded the chapter’s success,” said Colleen Scott Keiser, FFA Adviser.

When Tallant wasn’t cheering on school sports, playing football, or involved in FFA, he was usually found hanging out with his best friends.

“You have to have fun or life’s a waste,” senior Tyler Allen always recalls Tallant telling him. Allen and Tallant have been close friends since eighth grade.

“Keven can always make me laugh and is always there for me,” said Allen.

When Tallant is with his best friends you’ll find them just hanging out and playing video games.

Tallant plans on attending Lansing Community College in the fall and then transferring to Lake Superior State University to be a Conservation Officer or a News Broadcaster.

“Mr. Moulton showed me where my passions lie and plays a major factor in my want to be a Conservation Officer,” Tallant said. “He teaches for the passion not for the money.”

Tallant’s desire to become a conservation officer was also influenced by his love of the outdoors and Envirothon, a state wide environmental based completion in which his team took second and was awarded $1,500 for Michigan State University.

“I love riding four wheelers, hunting, and going up North,” Tallant said.

Tallant may be ready for college but he’s still going to miss his small groups of friends that were as close to him as family, and the teachers that got him here. His advice to the underclassman is “Do all your work from the second it starts. It will make high school easier and give you more time for friends.”

Keven is the son of Karylinda Leathem.

FOWLERVILLE SUPERINTENDENT’S ARTICLE PDF Print E-mail

September 5,2010

I have been so happy to see all of parents and children who have been attending the events this week in anticipation of the first day of school this coming Tuesday. Both Smith and Kreeger Elementary schools had fantastic turnouts for the open houses that occurred this past Wednesday. It was truly “standing room only” as parents and students toured the building to get a first look at classrooms, meet teachers and staff and get a chance to see old friends. Food service staff was also on hand to provide information about the lunch program, to set up lunch accounts, and take applications for free and reduced lunches. The classrooms are setup and ready to go and the staff has been working very hard to see that the first day of school is a positive experience for every child who walks through the door on Tuesday. Thanks to Mr. Kitchen, Mrs. Fleck and all the staff at Smith and Kreeger for their commitment and hard work to ensure a great start to the 2010-2011 school year.

The Junior High held a 6th grade orientation for incoming students. The event was very well attended and parents and students received information and advice about changes that occur during the middle years and what they can do to assure a smooth transition to the Junior High experience. Mr. Mainka and his staff have been working hard to prepare for the new school year and parents and students can expect some fresh new ideas from the Junior High this year. Thanks to Mr. Mainka, Mr. Cowger and the Junior High staff for all their hard work.

Mr. Roedel, Mrs. Lilly, counselors and office staff have been busy at Fowlerville High School. The building has been active with students and parents coming to make last minute changes to schedules and have questions answered. The administration and staff have been busy preparing for next weeks arrival of students for what we anticipate will be a great year. Thank you to the High School Staff for their hard work.

I would like to extend a special thanks to all of the year around staff for all their hard work to see that things are ready to go for the first day. Mr. Carr, Mr. Michelle and the entire custodial and maintenance crew have the buildings and campus in “tip-top” condition after one of the hottest summers in years. Thank you so much, things look great.

Remember-School starts Tuesday, September 7, 2010. I look forward to seeing all of you at coming events.
